The Friends of the Bertram Free Library (FOL) is a 501C nonprofit organization formed on May 6, 1978 by a group of ladies from the Bertram Literacy Club. The Friends of the Library own and operate the Thrift Store located next door to the Joann Cole Mitte Memorial Library. The sale proceeds from the Thrift Store fund new books, materials and programs for the library. The Joann Cole Mitte Memorial Library, commonly known as The Bertram Library, opened at its present site in 2011 when the Friend’s group purchased the land and secured a two million dollar grant to build a new library. The Friends of the Library maintain the library site with the proceeds of two yearly fundraisers, the traditional Souper Supper, held in the fall of each year and the Basket Raffle held each June. The mission of the Friends of the Library is to promote, support, improve and enhance the goals of the Joann Cole Mitte Memorial Library. Our library serves as a resource for our entire community by providing written materials, computers and programs for patrons of all ages. The Friends of the Library meet on the second Tuesday of each month in the Community Room in the library. Membership information is available from any member or the library staff.
